No Longer There

I swear it was there the last time I took the trouble

Trouble is they say that time and tide wait for no man

I know it was there one minute gone the next

On the chair, in the room, beside the window

Upon her pillow beside her dreams

Not so long ago

I know

I know it was there, just where I had left it

In the perfume of her hair in the sweetness of her smile

Echos of ten thousand moments passing

Written in stone, scratched, cross hatched

It was scribed into the very soul of me

How on earth could I even start to believe that I could lose it

How could the wildest wonder of all things be no more than just an imagining

A happen chance, a daydream

Wherein is the reasoning, wherein is the meaning

Nothing is for nothing.
