I heard a door bang shut this morning

The gleam in her eye had gone too

The cats curled in a coma

Dreaming of what might have been

No matter

I burnt my bread toast black this morning

The acrid smoke matching my mood

The mirror in the bathroom winked at me

Reflecting on what might have been

No matter

A painting fell from the wall this morning

Just picture the scene if you can

Staring from the window nothing changes

Imagining all that might have been

No matter

There was no milk for my tea this morning

The cat had got the cream again

I sit and search internet for joy

To discover what might have been

No matter

I lost my spectacles again this morning

I can’t hear or see her point of view

Oh Lord If only you and I had seen

All the wonder we might have been

No matter
