Early pearly morning dew

A dog fox beats the barn owl home

Sunday morning green and clean

The garden is quiet

Dried scrolled leaves dance down from the cherry tree

Scattering like paper mice beneath the rocker bench

The cracks in the paviours form jagged smiles

St Barnabas’s bells herald the faithful loud and long

To the tune of another Christian morning beginning

A joyous cacophony of inside out harmonics

A pair of cormorants’ bullet down to the lake

Black backed in perfect synchronicity

My breath is taken from me as I stand and watch in wonder

Moments later I hear my name softly whispered from the open door

A clear sign that coffee and croissants await
