The Postponement

Osteoarthritis leaving peg leg detritus in its wake

All for the sake of knee-deep sleep in Ibuprofen gel

The hell of each day giving way to a ball and chain

A pain that leads you to the everywhere of every moment

They postponed my knee replacement today

Due to a preoperative placement emphasizing my fluttering heart

What a stuttering start to my grey day… a sticky ticker

A beating transmitter that is thicker and quicker than it should be

A rushing and gushing of life’s blood in all the wrong places

Traces of Atrial Fibrillation and a hint of Mitral Regurgitation

A partial differential equation twixt the two in part

I would detest Cardiac Arrest

Oh! be still my beating heart
